Soldiers foil attempted kidnap, as police kill two robbers in Warri

Men of the Nigerian Army attached to the home of Major-General David Ejoor, on Deco Road yesterday evening foiled an attempted robbery and kidnap of a woman by a two-man gang.
The fleeing robbers were later killed by the men of the Anti-Crime Patrol team from B’ Division Police Station, Warri, during another failed attempt to rob residents of Ogboru Street.

This is coming barely 24 hours after Anti-Crime Patrol team from the ‘A Division’ Warri reportedly killed a four-man armed gang during exchange of gunfire on Monday afternoon.

Sources told our correspondent that the gunmen who had attempted to kidnap a woman at a failed portion of Deco Road by a filling station at the entrance of Etiarobi Street were overpowered by the superior gunfire from the soldiers guarding the home of the ex-general.

But acting on tip-off from members of the public, the anti robbery patrol team of ‘B Division’ traced the vehicle which the robbers used in the operation to Ogboru area of the city, where gang members were identified as they tried to carry out another attack in the area.

They, however, opened fire on the anti-robbery team as they attempted to arrest the suspects; but they were overpowered by the police team.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Celestina Kalu, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

Kalu gave the names of the slain suspects as Joshua Godwin (17) and Ogeneogu Idogor (25).

According to her, “On September 27, 2016 at 22:50 hrs (10:55pm), anti-crime patrol team led by ASP Amos Samuel on a distress call intercepted two suspected armed robbers robbing people on exchange of fire.

“Two of them were arrested with serious gunshot injuries, while one locally made pistol, one dagger knife and one Nokia phone were recovered from them.

“The two suspects died while on their way to the hospital; and their corpses have been deposited at the Warri General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.”
