DATE: SUNDAY 4TH JUNE 2017 (PENTECOST SUNDAY)
READING: ACT 2:1-13
TOPIC: THE GREAT PROMISE FULFILLED
Today in the Church’s calendar, is special as we remember and celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit in fulfilment of the prophecy in Joel 2:28-32. In the OT times, the Spirit took possession of anyone God wished to use as an instrument to perform a given task and took leaves off him thereafter. God chose a unique occasion ten days after the Ascension of Jesus to fulfil His longstanding promise. God drew people from all walks of life to Jerusalem for the feast of Pentecost and did it in the Unique way, ensuring that the disciples of Christ present spoke in tongues of all those gathered from many different parts of the then world. However, some standing by made a mockery of it saying the disciples were drunk with wine.
Have you had the baptism of the Holy Spirit? If you haven’t been so then do the following:
i. offer yourself as a clean vessel to God (Isa. 52: I l)
ii. wait on God as the disciples did (Acts 2:2)
iii. desire Him (John 7:37-39), and
iv. ask for Him (Luke 1 1:13)
God is ever willing to give His Holy Spirit to all who will repent of their sins, surrender all to Him through the Lord Jesus Christ. The promise is for Jews and the Gentiles.
Prayer: Oh God, baptise me with Your Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
