Gov Okowa Hosts The South South Regional Security Summit in Asaba, calls for community policing, rebuilding of trust

The Governor of Delta State, today hosted the South South geo-political regional Summit in the state’s capital Asaba.

He said that this summit is timely as the region is grappling with multifaceted violent forms of insecurity.

This Regional Summit, was also imperative as it provided State Executives, security agencies, and community leaders with a platform to strategise in a focused environment.

His called for a joint effort in community policing to checkmate all forms of criminalities rife in the region.

He also challenged the security Chiefs to work assiduously to restore the confidence of the citizenry. Excepts included..

I emphasised that community policing is imperative to tackle heightened cases of cultism, small arms and light weapons proliferations, farmers/herdsmen clashes, kidnapping, sea piracy and sex trafficking that now dominate the region.

I also explained that the most critical component for constructing a strategic and effective partnership for community policing is trust between the police and the people they serve.

This is why, moving forward, there is an urgent need to rebuild the mutual trust between the Police and all other security agencies, and the Nigerian people, through deliberate policies and actions.

He expressed hope that as we move forward, there will be increased cooperation between the Police Command and the various State Governments to build a #StrongerNigeria for everyone.
